This is breathtaking literal. I’ve never knew the story of starry night. But I can appreciate living like a tiger in a glass house asylum you cannot escape.
I’ve never once felt the weight of a finger to my chest…but I dream sometimes of pure beauty and grace. Then other times I’ve got nightmares that I stand at the asylums glass windows…and press my finger upon the world. Not to teach a lesson, but to resuscitate life back into lungs too scared to breath. As if life’s irony produced fear of speaking more lies.
Whenever I press well enough against the window…she returns to walk me through an oasis. Where flowers bloom in desert sand where she’s the only source of water in the land.
When Frodo set off to destroy the 1 ring alongside Samwise as they split up from the fellowship, different characters played different roles.
At the end of the return of the king, that is the first time Frodo's suffering is presented directly within the film.
Each character had a role to play.
If Gandalf could not focus up because he was feeling bad for the arduous journey ahead for the crew, he might not have had enough Aura to defeat the Balrog.
I like to think a lot of humanity as a whole is working in tandem with the Earth, the stars, to infinity & beyond. Every one has a part to play.
Of course, many people definitely got the short end of the stick in regards to how crappy of a life they have to look forward to.
However...
People make it out of bad situations all the time in all different places.
Suffering is subjective.
Would you rather be a coal miner or be teleported inside a TV into the world of Mean Girls & get terrorized by Regina George everyday? I imagine some would pick one and some would pick the other.
If the function and duty of a human being is reaching their fullest potential at whatever crafts they practice, along with showing love as the default, being assertive and a boss and implementing boundaries/consequences when necessary, an individual begins to shine more and more. This example isn't the greatest, but my point is when individuals grow, humanity grows and advances.
A person does not gain anything simply by feeling remiss due to the suffering of the less fortunate. Counterintuitively, a person who holds the less fortunate at the forefront of their minds yet relentlessly pursues greatness, a position is reached where a person can make significantly larger of an impact compared to if they never tried to grow due to a perceived "wrongness" of the state of the world and the seemingly excessive pain infiltrating each and every living being in some capacity.
The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
If I do my job and stand on business and be kind and protect the innocent & press the leeches of society -- those with zero redeemable qualities -- so they cannot detract from the growth of where 🪬creations are destined to go... It makes things a teeny tiny bit easier on all of us. If 1,000 people do that, a tiny bit easier. 1,000,000, a chunk easier. Maybe easier isn't the right word.. fulfilling? Purposeful? I think a whole lot of words could go there.
Anyway, I don't think the suffering of others should detract from the life I live. I try to help as much as possible if I cross paths with someone who needs help & I can provide the type of help needed, yet I am not going to feel guilty nor allow anyone else to make me feel guilty for enjoying the good times in my life when good times happen. Let the good times MF roll.
This way of thinking has really allowed me to fix my own ish going on & be a better gee (guy) in several different areas.
Things just sort of unfold in a way I see more clearly and am able to react or respond in ways that make my life ... Better. A newfound clarity bestowed on me gifted me with more expensive vision. I don't worry about having to practice meditation or mindfulness or any of that because it's now permanently ingrained in my every day routine. I don't tell myself 'im going to practice mindfulness now' - I just do it like second nature.
I love this line: “The way a story can press a finger to your sternum and say, Feel that? That’s you. That’s what you’re made of.” 🤍🤍
