"The ego is behind every moment you retell with better pacing. Every text you rewrite for tone. Every picture you post that’s not really for your friends—it’s for your ex’s cousin’s girlfriend’s roommate. You know. Just in case." Oof. I loved this!! Great read!

I would say this is a great piece, but I wouldn’t want to feed your ego. Jokes aside, this is a fantastic piece. I love that you talked about how it’s impossible to get rid of your ego, it’s been installed in our bodies since forever. But that doesn’t mean it gets to control our bodies.

totally! ideally, the ego doesn’t get fed, but realistically, we’re all human and will feed it regardless. i’d say the goal is to be aware of when and where it shows up, and proceed from there. it’s a tough balance! Eckhart Tolle does a great job of explaining this. I recommend A New Earth if you’ve never read it. :)

Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll look into it. It’s weird how social anxiety and fomo play into it, and I like how you brought it up.

So well written! I am a person who tries to live as authentically as I can...be the same person in public as I am in private! The world is so full of masks and illusions I deeply desire to just me me...full out...for better or worse! This article reminded me of something! No matter how authentically we are trying to be living, there's still something that's being influenced by ego!! And it was a deeply felt wonderful reminder! thank you! It resonated! I hit subscribe and look forward to reading more of your work in the future...I love reading other people's stuff!! This is how we learn, this is how we grow!! Iron sharpens iron! And I'm totally sharpened after this read!!

“You can stay in the moment long enough to remember you’re already enough.”

This!!! This is why slowing down is important, why we need breaks from our social media feeds and internet personas, to allow space for us to really notice the thoughts being written by our egos. Loved this piece so much!

exactly!! social media detoxes are so important when it comes to the ego. i catch my ego showing up when it comes to the online world more than id like to admit, but little breaks here and there help me keep it in check. so glad you liked the piece! ☺️

I hate to feed your ego but this essay was the best piece I've read in a long time… but it should do your soul proud to know that it also made me feel less alone.

Seriously though, this was a fantastic read and just what I needed today!🩷

Liv, you just exposed the ego like a magician yanking the tablecloth and leaving all the wobbly glasses still standing. Beautifully done. Most people are too busy photoshopping their pain into “life lessons” to admit how desperate their inner narrator actually sounds.

You caught it: the ego isn’t evil. It’s just that panicked intern inside us, triple-checking if their badge still scans at the door of worthiness.

We don’t need to kill it. We just need to laugh, bow, and remind it who’s actually steering this absurd, glorious mess.

Thanks for writing something the soul can actually sit down and nod to. Not just swipe past.

With mischief and reverence,

Virgin Monk Boy

wow thank you so much, aleksander. truly means so much to hear your insights and takeaways from this piece. tbh, i was a little afraid to publish it because it’s a bit controversial and uncomfortable. most people don’t want to confront their egos, but i’m so glad you heard the message and were able to sit with it. really means the world! 🫶🏼💕🥹

Wonderful wonderful writing! Just yesterday I saw a video about ego, highlighting how important it is to be aware of it—without letting it control us or ignoring it entirely. Today, I came across your essay. This was really introspective, I'm definitely going to sit and journal about this 😂 Thank you for this!

“To be seen—but curated. Loved—but selectively. Known—but only the parts that photograph well. The ego doesn’t want intimacy. It wants applause.”

Ooof. So well said. I’m going to be thinking about this a lot this week… I think I’ve just found myself in the loop of seeking applause > intimacy again.

Loved reading this❤️

Utterly obsessed with "And maybe that’s the real work—not killing the ego, but noticing when it’s at the mic". Ego is a part of what it means to be human and I think the magic is working with it, not against it. Getting curious about why the ego takes centre stage when it does it literally sooo powerful X
